Okanagan prepares for spring runoff

OKANAGAN — The time is now to protect your property from spring runoff.

That according to Central Okanagan Emergency Operations, which is sending out a call to area residents that prevention is key to protecting your home from flood waters.

The Central Okanagan Regional District (CORD) confirmed there are no areas of concern at the moment, however “those living near creeks, streams and low-lying flood-prone areas and with lakefront properties are responsible for having a plan as well as the tools and equipment necessary to protect their properties from possible flood damage.”

Sandbags are now available at  fire halls across the Central Okanagan, but at this time residents must provide their own sand to fill them.
