2 charged after inmate killed in federal prison in Kingston, Ont.

TORONTO — Provincial police have charged two men in connection with the murder of a federal inmate at a prison in Kingston, Ont.

The OPP Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad responded to the death of an inmate at the Collins Bay Institution in Kingston on July 27.

Police said John James Macdonald, 55, of Toronto, was the victim of a homicide in the prison.

Two inmates have been charged in connection with the death, after assistance from the Correctional Service of Canada and the OPP.

Nathan Sachs, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder and David Russell Tanner, 31, has been charged with accessory after the fact.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad at 613-531-7400, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
